TROOP E NEWS RELEASE July 13, 2013 Unrestrained Teenager Killed In Sabine Parish Crash Sabine Parish - Earlier today, a crash involving two vehicles killed an Anacoco teenager that was not wearing her seatbelt. Troopers responded to the crash around 12:00 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 191 at Little Flock Road. The crash involved a 1998 GMC pickup, driven by a juvenile (W/M 17 yrs) of Lake Arthur, LA and a 2000 Dodge pickup, driven by a juvenile (W/M 16 yrs) of Anacoco, LA. The GMC and the Dodge were both northbound on LA Hwy 191 when the GMC attempted to make a left turn as the Dodge was passing it. This action resulted in the GMC colliding with the Dodge causing the Dodge to exit the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the Dodge reentered LA Hwy 191 and began overturning. The juvenile driving the GMC was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. The juvenile’s only passenger, identified as Larry Pettijohn (W/M 57 yrs) of Lake Arthur, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. The juvenile driving the Dodge received moderate injuries and was transported to Byrd Hospital. He was wearing his seatbelt. The juvenile had two passengers in his vehicle at the time of the crash. They are identified as Winter N. Airhart (W/F 17 yrs) and another juvenile (W/F 13 yrs) of Many, LA. The thirteen year old was wearing her seatbelt and received moderate injuries. She was transported to Byrd Hospital. Airhart was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected. She was pronounced dead. The juvenile driving the GMC was also towing a utility trailer. It was determined the required lighting on the utility trailer was not working at the time of the crash. He was charged with improper left turn and tail lamps required. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E Troopers have investigated 25 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 26 fatalities.
