TROOP F NEWS RELEASE December 02, 2014 Tensas Parish Crash Claims the Lives of Two Newellton Residents On December 02, 2014, at 2:49 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a three-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 4 in Tensas Parish. The crash occurred 4.8 miles west of US Highway 65, west of the community of Banks Springs. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 95-year-old Ralph Cooper of Newellton was traveling east on LA Hwy 4 when for unknown reasons, the vehicle he was driving veered across the center line into the path of a westbound Mack dump truck which was followed by another Mack dump truck. The Chevrolet Silverado struck the lead Mack dump truck head-on and came to rest in the roadway. After initial contact with the Chevrolet Silverado, the lead dump truck was struck in the rear by the second dump truck. Cooper and a passenger in his vehicle, 90-year-old, Jewel Lee of Newellton, were pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers of the dump trucks were transported to local hospitals for minor injuries. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from each of the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
