TSS KK Special Screening & Talk: Tap That! Of Water Land & Us Sat, 12th July 2014 at 2.00 pm Synopsis: Indigenous communities in Borneo are rapidly losing their natural water catchment areas – a fine indicator of economic growth. Rampant agriculture and logging activity, at an electrifying rate means the rain is the only natural source of water. And there is nowhere to store it. Tap That! chronicles the people of Kg Komburongo in rural Sabah and their plight to find a sustainable water solution. It’s becoming a fight for survival, a fight for the land. Kg Komburongo reflects the critical situation for communities all over Borneo who are holding the short end of the stick. While Sabah is rich in natural resources and one of the biggest contributors to the nation’s GDP, its own people are robbed of basic water access and land protection. This film examines the relationship between people, water and the very land beneath their feet. In English and Malay with English subtitles. This session includes a post-screening Q&A with filmmaker Beatrice Leon, together with Anne Lasimbang of PACOS (Partners of Community Organisations in Sabah). PACOS was involved in the making of the film and has been concerned about issues such as water, land rights and maintenance of culture and language for many years. This special screening will be at The Sabah Society Secretariat and will begin at 2.00 pm. A donation of RM10 per person attending is suggested.
