TUES. 26TH AUGUST, 2014 ODEHYIEBA DAILY DEVOTION TOPIC: REASONS FOR FASTING TEXT: Matthew 17:21 NKJV However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. EXPOSITION We thank God for another blessed day. For today, we shall be looking at some biblical reasons why people fast. This is not the standard since others may have their perculiar reasons for fasting. Neverthesless, every fast should be in line with the purpose and perfect will of God for your life. Now lets look at the reasons. 1. People fast for deliverance from sin, addiction, bondage. Matthew 17:21 says, However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. 2. Others fast for Help and divine protection from the Satan. Example is in Ezra 8:23. Ezra said that they prayed and fasted and God answered their request, thus, they needed divine protection. 3. For Revival (1 Samuel 7:6). The people were bound by idol worship and needed deliverance. Samuel called them back to seeking the Lord and to bring the Ark back to Jerusalem. That is, they fasted and prayed for forgiveness. 4. Others fast to gain mental freedom from emotional problems or habits. 5. For spiritual empowerment and victory over temptation, the flesh and the devil. Matthew 4:1-11 My Precious Beloved, please Don’t fast to appear religious before men, “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (Matthew 6:16-18 ). We shall continue tomorrow God willing. Stay blessed and enjoy a blissful day. PEACE-SHALOM!
