TWO MINDS, ONE BODY NOVEMBER 1, 2014 KIRSTEN COWART We have heard of conjoined twins but this case is a bit more rare and unique. Tamish and Rajiv Mukeherjee were born at the Saiffe Hospital in India at 09:10 AM Oct 29 2014 and have a rare condition where they have one head containing two different brains. In most cases of diprosopus twins will share a body but have two separate faces and brains. But in this case these boys have one head, one face and each controls one half of the body they share. Doctor Parsa and his colleagues from Saiffe Hospital have made an extensive series of tests and scans on the newborn, before realizing that they were indeed dealing with two individuals. The doctors who are caring for the boys report that they are in good health and their shared heart appears to be able to fully support both brains efficiently which is the biggest concern in these cases. In the city they were born a large crowd of onlookers gathered because of a rumor spreading that an “incarnation of Shiva” had just been born. It appears that the unique condition has sparked the interest of many Hindus since the concepts of duality are at the core of their religion. The crowds have even gotten so bad that police have had to use pepper spray and batons to keep people back. The boys’ father, Hakesh Mukerjee, seemed a bit overwhelmed by all the attention given to his family since the birth of the twins. The size of the boys head have already caused complications and is expected to cause more in the future. The weight of their head is enough to possibly break their spine at this young and fragile age. However there is good news; the doctors report that the boys organs are functioning normally and they feel that it is completely possible that they will be able to function normally for many years. 3.27k 21 Doctors are the most curious about the future of the boys when it comes to their ability to speak, walk, and learn basic actions. Tamish is in control of the left eye, arm and leg while Rajiv controls the right eye, arm and leg. The Doctors are interested to see how the boys will learn the ultimate test of working together in order to accomplish the basic tasks of life. What they have already noticed is that one of the boys can fall asleep while the other boy is still wide awake. The sleeping boy’s half of the body will remain inert while the other is fully active. What could be the implications of a child born in the west compared to the east when it comes to such rare conditions? We shared an article recently about Abby and Brittany Hensel who were born and raised in the US. If you see the documentary you will notice that for the most part these two girls live an active and normal life. What would be the difference to be born in an eastern country where the birth will be seen as more than a mere coincidence? Will the boys be honored as a sign from the gods? Will they be raised up to inspire nations? Perhaps there will be a symbolic celebration for the variety of life that consciousness has chosen for expansion, not only for those special boys and for everyone involved in their lives. Could such a duality lead to a type of unity between two people that we only dream about? Perhaps the connection here will inspire a level of teamwork unlike anything we have seen so far on this earth. I hope we hear good things in the future for these incredible boys. Much love, Kirsten Spirit Team
