TWO: The one and only thing you can guarantee about making a film, is that shit will always happen, and sometimes, just too much in one go. Putting aside the philosophical and artistic vision you have, the responsibility of directing relates to the hard decisions you might have to take on the spur of the moment, and these are sometimes fateful. You have to make out whether you continue rolling for that day and overtime despite the bad things going on around, or just give up and leave them till the next shooting call. You have to make out whether this shot is worth the time its taking, or if improvising would do you some good. And with both, there is a responsibility of a performance, camera angel, the specific day light youve been seeking, and above all, the tight budget you own to make the film happen. One thing I have learned, is that as a director, you are the artery of what you are doing. Only you can pump the energy into and out of your crew members, so let it be positive. When dealing with a hard shot, if you work with determination, everyone will anxiously wait three hours for your perfect take. So use your weakness, but dont show it, because a directors state of mind is a contagious epidemic.
