Taiwanese company Superlux continues their tradition of extremely high quality headphones at ridiculous prices with the HD681 EVO. I picked-up a pair on Amazon, and am again floored by the sound quality. Smooth and linear across the band, with a steady (and I think appropriate) rise in the two octaves below 100hz to perhaps +8 db at 30 hz. On test tones, the steady rise is easy to hear (Ill link to my test tones that I created for this purpose...100hz to 30hz in 10 hz increments), but on music it sounds JUST RIGHT! We dont feel bass against our bodies with headphones as we do with speakers, so I strongly believe that a steady rise with descending frequency on headphones is appropriate...but only in those bottom two octaves! I listened to the first segment of Saving the 70s Show 346 on these phones, and my voice sounded just right. Were I still on the air every day, THESE would be my go-to phones! Highs are smooth, but if theres a high frequency edge in the content...as in cymbal crashes on Jesus is just alright by The Doobie Brothers, youll sure hear it. Great, reference quality cans. And I only paid 40 buck for them! On NewEgg, theyre 99.99! Amazon Prime is cool!
