Taking a cue from the book Orientalism by Edward W Said, in which he establishes the erroneousness of the description of the East by the West, in order to understand how the state defames the Pashtuns, the tribes of FATA are stereotyped by the Pakistani establishment as violent, warlike and barbarous, who do not deserve to be treated like human beings. They are denied access to the most common and basic commodities of modern civilization, including fundamental rights, a decent living, policing, cellular and internet connectivity, contact with the outside world and so on. The legendary Great Game of the 19th and 20th centuries, played out in Central Asia between Czarist Russia and the British Indian Empire, might have come to an end in other parts of Central Asia with the disintegration of these empires, but the Pakistani establishment is adamant on continuing it across the two sides of the Durand Line to this day. The most loathsome aspect of the Game was and still is its disregard for the lives of those inhabiting the areas on which it was played out, including the Pashtun tribes. archives.dailytimes.pk/editorial/04-Nov-2013/comment-the-fata-black-hole-shahid-ilyas
