Talking Heads in 1980. A little something here I didnt know about. I saw them that year as a four piece band in Santa Barbara with a horrible mix and it wasnt a good show at all. Three years later in Los Angeles their big afrobeat orchestra blew my mind and stands still as one of the two or three best concerts Ive ever seen. Here they are in 1980 with an early incarnation of that multi rhythm big band but stripped down without David Byrns brilliant theatrics. Some members of this band were still intact for that 1983 tour which you can find here in full, Jonathan Demmes filmed concert Stop Making Sense guitarist Adrian Belew fresh off of his stint with Frank Zappas Mothers of Invention was about to move on to the 80s incarnation of Fripps King Crimson.
