Talking about uncomplicated lives in another thread - I grew up in Unified which is a little Suburb in Florida. We moved there from Durban in about 1969. The thing is : in walking distance from our house was a Greengrocer, Greek Cafe, Pharmacy, Hardware Shop, Harry Parrs Grocery, a Tailor,a Cobbler, Bottle Store etc etc. Our whole lives were all centred around those shops. When my shoe broke, it was off to the cobbler(Just buy new ones these days), The tailor sorted my school pants. We were huge friends with the Greek family who ran the Cafe. There was Gibson Dairy who used to deliver fresh milk every day. I dont know what I am trying to say, but I preferred the world back then, uncomplicated, it was more of a mystery, because all you do now is do research on the Internet. Everything has become instant. I remember when we were given projects at school and I would rush to the Library and hope that none of my classmates were hogging all the reference books! So different today! I have a son who is 13 and If I look back at when I was 13, I was living in Unified, not knowing what the BIg World had in store for me. He has more knowledge now than I did at 30 or even 40. No wonder he gets bored so easily.... Sometimes I just wish my kids could have experienced buying russians and chips and sitting at the lake, or dressing up to go to the cinema.
