Talking education, the 2012 benchmarking results for year 4 students reveal we rank 27th out of 45 nations in reading, 18th out of 50 nations in maths. In year 8 maths we were 12th of 42 nations and 37% of Aust. students lacked basic maths skills. Labour has failed to handle the billions $ poured into the "schools Halls" programs. Funding needs to get more directly to schools and schools need to be able to self manage their own projects in order to deliver better value for their $ (while maintaining building standards). Leftover funds should be kept by schools for other capital projects. RUAP believes in financial transparency and to that end we will vote with the Coalition to establish a full judicial enquiry on behalf of taxpayers to get to the bottom of the BER "school hall" mismanagement and probable rorting. we believe in a top quality education as a right and necessity I our country and are committed to building an education system that will equip our children to succeed in an ever increasing competitive world. we need a world class public schools system.
