Tanya asks: Looking into homeschooling high school and have a lot - TopicsExpress

Tanya asks: Looking into homeschooling high school and have a lot of questions. Is anyone currently doing this or completed this in the recent past that could help me answer some questions that I have? Debra: There are a lot of great options out there now for homeschooling. If you want a very structured traditional schooling route there is K.12 and other online programs. Time4Learning now also has a HS program, in addition to programs that offer supplemental classes in real life like GA-EPH.org One of the big questions asked centers around credited units vs a self made diploma. More and more colleges (if that is the childs end goal) are taking homeschooled kids without formal diplomas. I personally think the directions of grades 9-10-11 and 12 should reflect what the child wants to do after HS. Many kids are doing 1-2 years of HS work then moving on to college classes. You can also CLEP classes. Weve known families who unschool, with zero formal courses, through HS, go to college and reach their intended goal for career. Maybe they dont want to go straight to college, maybe their goal doesnt require years of college work. The HS years can focus on their talent, craft, apprenticeship, etc of what they dream to do. This year I have a 9,10, and 11th grader. Even as I answer this I feel mild panic lol. We are doing a combination of unschooling, co-op classes and online programs. Each child will tackle their grade differently, in a way that seems to work for them and accomplish their goals. I will be doing a lot of online research, and as you, asking parents with grown kids how they survived these HS years. I hope for lots of responses here, personal, referred, links to articles and possible HS options. On your mark, get set......GO!
