Taps WW II veteran T/Sgt. Ewing Roddy, B-17 flight - TopicsExpress

Taps WW II veteran T/Sgt. Ewing Roddy, B-17 flight engineer/gunner of the Lt. Wm. D. Templeton crew of the Eighth Air Force, 490th BG, passed in July. Roddy of Liinwood, NJ, was my teenage buddy and B-17 crew member for 400 hours of flight training and twenty bombing missions when we flew five miles high, on oxygen at 40 below to blast enemy targets. I know Rod’s top turret machine guns saved my life during two fighter attacks. He did it again the day he kicked a loose bomb out of the bomb-bay on the Augsburg mission. I like to think that Rod is re-joining the other eight members of the Templeton crew and will save the Radio Operator’s seat for me! “Bombs Away”- pages 48-53
