Tarasso incident: role of a CPI-ML leader under scanner Taba Ajum ITANAGAR, Jan 30: The role of one Vivek Das believed to be CPI (ML) leader of Borgang under Sonitpur district is under scanner for boundary clash at Tarasso, which resulted in death of 10 persons. According to the report Das allegedly invited people hailing from other parts of Assam to come to Bihali, situated nearby Tarasso with promise of providing them land in return. His activity came to light for the first time in May 2013 when he led provocative bike rally inside Arunachal territory at Tarasso. Since then supporters of Das had encroached upon Arunachal’s land and had put up camps in various area of Tarasso circle. Majority of his supporters are heavily armed with weapon. The area where clashes broke out yesterday resulting in the death of 10 persons is reportedly one of the several camps set up by armed CPI (ML) member. As per the report published in popular news service British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), some Assam officials are quoted of stating that victim of yesterday’s firing incident themselves were encroachers who were evicted twice by the forest department. The report totally negates the smear campaign launched by Assam based media organizations, who, were reporting one sided story and fueling anti-Arunachal sentiments. As result of it, panicky situation is developing in both the states, which poses serious threat to Assam-Arunachal relation. It is quite astonishing how government of Assam and Arunachal did not take notice of growing activities of CPI (ML) leader Vivek Das. His action has been threatening peace along Tarasso area for quite long time. If government of two states had taken corrective measure long time ago, this incident could have easily been avoided. There are unconfirmed reports of road blockade being imposed at Borgang area under Sonitpur district. It led to mad rush among capital citizens, with petrol pump and grocery shop witnessing long queue of citizen piling stocks in fear of economic blockade. The situation exposes the helplessness of Arunachal.
