Tarigami pays rich tributes to 1931 martyrs ‘Commemorating martyrs-day has become symbolic, people at the helm need to re-dedicate themselves to their great cause’ =>Paying glowing tributes to July 13, 1931 martyrs, the CPI (M) State Secretary Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami has said making Jammu and Kashmir a true democratic unit and doing away with the autocratic tendencies in the system is a real reward to the great people who laid down their lives for this cause. In a statement issued here today, the CPI (M) leader said sacrifices offered by July 13 martyrs were aimed at fighting autocracy. These sacrifices, he added inspired the people to strive for establishment of a true democratic setup in the state which sofar seems a distant dream. “One may disagree but the ground reality is that the institutions of governance have not come to the expectations of the people for dispensation of justice and better delivery of services. The polity of the state has also sofar failed to inculcate real democratic values that could facilitate people to get the maximum out of existing democratic and political institutions of the state,” he observed. He said over eight decades ago the uprising started by those great people was aimed at relieving people of the state from miserable position of exclusion and suppression. But unfortunately the same has not reached to its logical conclusion sofar. The CPI (M) leader remarked that July 13, martyrs had inspired people of the state to be masters of their affairs and make decisions for their welfare but the people at the helm of affairs should go for self introspection vis-à-vis this cause. The CPI (M) leader said that restoring the faith of people in democratic institutions need of the hour and added that aspirations of the people demand acknowledgement by those in power. “Cementing the democratic and secular institutions of the state can guarantee transformation of J&K into a welfare state,” Tarigami said and added that political considerations should not cloud the true spirit of secular and pluralistic ethos of the state. He said that commemorating martyrs day should not be a traditional or symbolic event but an occasion to re-dedicate ourselves for betterment of the people and strengthening of democratic and secular fabric where every citizen lives with dignity and enjoys socio-political and economic empowerment. Martyrs sacrifices can be guiding factor in this regard. CPI (M) humbly salutes the sacrifices of brave sons of the soil on this day and appeals all shades of political opinion in Kashmir to unitedly find out ways to take out people from the present dismal socio-political and economic scenario. The party describes it as a real tribute to the great martyrs.
