Tashkent Decleration The War of 1965 comes to an end after India formally requests the United Nations to call for a ceasefire, 24 hours after an embrassing defeat at the Battle of Chawinda. On 10 January 1966, the Tashkent Deceleration was signed between the two countries. The Soviets, represented by Premier Alexei Kosygin moderated between President Muhammad Ayub Khan and Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The Indians incurred the most losses during the entire war, with more than 120 Indian tanks lost (compared to 40 Pakistani tanks), 110 aircraft lost (compared to 18 PAF losses) and a heavy Naval attack at Dwarkha. Under the deceleration, it compelled Pakistan and India to restore their national boundary and the 1949 ceasefire line in Kashmir. This eventually led to dissatisfaction and protests against the Ayub Khan leadership. — at Tashkent, USSR.
