Taylor Swift (Major Taylor). Why I support her as opposed to “God made Girls.” And for the record we did a comparison and contrast of “Mean” vs “God Made Girls” yesterday because we had a major bullying incident and sometimes you HAVE to scrap your lessons to take care of what’s more important, and what’s funny is I think I had “Major Taylor” written in my lesson plans… of course, that’s a different Major Taylor, but who cares? Number one, she supported men who’ve been victimized, number two she gave little girls who’ve been bullied a way out, singing, writing, and collaborating with people who do support you AND college AND theater(I would tell my kids the same thing and do!). Number three, she refused to be a victim. When the industry presented her with a divisive situation, SHE chose to be the bigger person and instead of pointing fingers at people who hurt her, she looked at other people who needed support, see the video “Mean”. Number four, work ethic. She is a SELF made success: “Raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 14 to pursue a career in country music. She signed with the independent label Big Machine Records and became the youngest songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house. The release of Swifts self-titled debut album in 2006 established her as a country music star. Her third single, Our Song, made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number-one song on the Hot Country Songs chart.”. Do I love pop-Nashville? Not really. Do I think she personally is a great role model, you bet. More successful than Madonna at this age, and that is amazing! Any man who did that would be called an entertainment genius. Let’s be fair. She’s not a child. She’s a damn smart woman. What I don’t like or think is fair to this grown woman is to stick her face on teenage magazines. She is close to thirty. That is ridiculous! At her age, my husband was serving in our military, I had a college degree, and was teaching kids the same age as the ones on some of these magazines that I’m quite certain she’s contractually obliged to. To put a woman with as much business savvy as she obviously has and has had since she was fourteen on the cover of a teen magazine is demeaning to her and other successful women! https://youtube/watch?v=jYa1eI1hpDE
