Tchaikovsky - Waltz from Serenade in C Kremlin Chamber Orchestra - TopicsExpress

Tchaikovsky - Waltz from Serenade in C Kremlin Chamber Orchestra conducted by M. Rachlevsky. Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1814 - 1893) considered the Serenade in C major for strings op. 48 (1880) one of his finest works. He said he wrote it from an inner compulsion. It is a piece from the heart. The Waltz, 2nd of the 4 movements, has become a popular piece. It inspired Balanchine his ballet Serenade in 1934 ( see previous post). Also excerpts from the score were used by Boris Eifman in Anna Karenina ballet in 2005. The word serenade originally meant a song or a piece of music played at evening under the window of a lady by her lover. However in Classical music it is an instrumental composition of several movements for a small ensemble. https://youtube/watch?v=Q3SvnT6oVzE
