Teachers deserve better Meeting this teacher riding the same - TopicsExpress

Teachers deserve better Meeting this teacher riding the same bicycle that he used to ride way back when I was in primary, and looking haggard at the same time, brought a lot of pain to my heart. The clothes were hanging on his body and he looked too troubled. On seeing me, he gave me one of his best smiles and I smiled back greeting him in one of the best English accents that he inspired me to use. Although I know that I will never thank him enough for making me who I am, the Shs 50,000 note I handed him spread a great smile across his face. Teachers contribute a lot to our well-being. I don’t know if any of you can testify to this but most primary teachers take a lot of time to change from one economic group to another. They spend very many sleepless nights trying to see how they deepen their knowledge which they pass onto their learners hence making a better a Uganda. However, it’s so shocking that most of the teachers are among the lowest earners of the nation. They are ever striking, wishing for a better pay, which doesn’t normally come. Most of the people that have scaled the economic ladder were inspired by at least one of their teachers at primary or secondary school level. Primary teachers’ accommodation hasn’t improved over the days, yet they go through a lot of pain to try to make us better. How I wish every Ugandan and the government could always look back onto these teachers and do something to better lives. They are the reason as to why Uganda smiles as they sleep hungry.
