Technology has dramatically changed our society and our world. Events that happen today anywhere in the world have an immediate, worldwide audience to scrutinize the event and judge it. There most likely will even be video documentation of the event. Twenty five years ago, the same incidents that are causing riots and protesting today might have been reported in newspapers, most likely, more prominently, locally. If the event happened in New York, in Peoria there might be brief reference to it on a back page of the paper, or it might not be reported to us at all. Today, newspapers that were once financial powerhouses are struggling to get by, with many failing and closing. News now is immediate, 24 hours daily, packaged and repackaged, and, sadly, is subject to both objective and accurate coverage, as well as biased reporting and distortion. The news is also huge business and money. The simple truth is that many, between TV and the internet, Have decided that they no longer need the newspaper anymore for news originating at pretty much any location in the world. Newspapers now offer on-line subscriptions to try to keep readers and generate needed revenue. I like the idea of being a well informed citizen, but like all things, with the good, will come accompanying, bad. Access to more information can lead to more personal stress, more worry, more doubt, more fear, more distrust, and even a more complicated life in general. The phrase, Ignorance is Bliss comes to mind. Simply put, things you dont know about,....things you entrust or empower others to take care of for you,.....you dont tend to worry about. You hope the trust you place in those acting in your behalf isnt abused or violated. Therein lies my question to you. How much information, is TOO MUCH information,...or,....is there no such thing as too much information,...and why or why not?
