Ted Corday started his career in the 1930s as a stage manager on Broadway. In the late 40s/early 50s he became a director for CBS radio and was the first to direct the new RADIO soap opera The Guiding Light. In 1956, he helped Irna Phillips create and bring As The World Turns to CBS television. The original idea for DAYS OF OUR LIVES came out of many informal discussions between Phillips and the Cordays. Ted Corday was producing ATWT where Phillips was the head writer. During this time, they co-created DOOL. DAYS debuted on NBC television on November 8,1965, being the first soap opera to be broadcast in color and the first set in the Midwest. Ted Corday passed away in July 1966, leaving his legacy to his wife, Betty, who was a producer of two radio soap operas (Young Dr. Malone and Pepper Youngs Family). Betty ran the show from 1966 until 1985 when she retired. She passed away in 1987. Their son, Ken, is now the Exec. Producer after starting work on the show in 1980.
