Teddy Tucker has passed away. He was a living legend. I first met - TopicsExpress

Teddy Tucker has passed away. He was a living legend. I first met him in the 1960s in Miami, having hitchhiked over 500 miles for the opportunity to meet him and another of my childhood heroes, Bob Marx. Some of the last correspondence that I had from him was via his daughter Wendy, letting me know that he (as a fellow of the Academy of Underwater Arts & Sciences) had just voted to honor me with a NOGI. (Tucker had received a NOGI in 1991, and Marx had gotten one in 1976.) My NOGI was a real honor, but a bigger one was knowing that Teddy Tucker had actually voted for it. It was so kind of him to let me know, as officially such votes are supposed to be secret. His passing is not just a loss to his friends and family on Bermuda but to the entire world, as he was a pioneer in underwater archaeology and a treasure trove of information on the history of shipwrecks and sunken treasure. He had a great impact on my life as he did on many others. Please go to and read more about him at: mobile.royalgazette/article/20140610/NEWS/140619968
