Telemarketer with very thick Indian accent calls from Australian - TopicsExpress

Telemarketer with very thick Indian accent calls from Australian Research Survey (obviously based in a call centre overseas given the delay time in the call) and wants to ask questions. She begins asking me her first question without asking if Im willing to participate. I interrupt her first question and politely, but firmly ask Me: Which human research ethics committee (HREC) has approved this research? Her: Sir, Im calling from Australian Research Survey, were asking everyone this survey Me: Okay, but which HREC has approved it. You must be complying with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007). Her: This is not a sales call, we just want to ask you a few questions. Me: Yes, but you need to tell me which HREC has approved the study and who I can talk to or complain to if I have concerns about the study. You also need to provide me with a plain language statement before asking me any questions so I can provide informed consent to participate. Her: I dont have that information Me: Then I wont consent to answer any of your questions Her: Okay sir, thank-you for your time. (hangs up) Moral of the story. If you know how research SHOULD be conducted and what laws, statutes and guidelines they should adhere too, you can use it to also get rid of aggressive telemarketers. :D
