Tell me if Im off-base on this one. Maybe I am. For the first - TopicsExpress

Tell me if Im off-base on this one. Maybe I am. For the first time in several years, today I heard Ferrante and Teichers version of the theme from Exodus. (Care to provide it, JD Kober?) It has never failed to impress me musically and move me emotionally, as did the Leon Uris novel and the movie version, even though Paul Newman was about as Jewish as I am. Apologies to those of you born before 1961, who probably dont have a clue as to what Im writing about. And it got me to thinking... Voting patterns among American Jews have always been overwhelmingly Democratic, and they still are. 120 years ago, when anti-Semites were almost all people we would have called conservative, that was understandable. But these days, all the criticism of Israel comes from the Left, and the best friends of Israel among Americans are conservative Christians. All I can guess is that Jewish Americans who are aware of these circumstances must be thinking, With friends like that, who needs enemies? It also doesnt make sense if you accept the stereotype, based on fact, that Jews do exceptionally well in business (Back in the day, that was the only thing they were ALLOWED to do), and still vote for the party that will tax them more heavily than the other. It also seems to me that American Jews are slowly accomplishing what Hitler wanted to do much more rapidly. For one thing, most of them seem to be totally secular, i.e., non-observant. For another, the non-observance is leading to more and more inter-marriage with Gentiles, thus further depleting the tribe. Judaism to most American Jews seems to be a heritage but not a religion. It all strikes me as very sad. But maybe Im misinterpreting. I would be relieved to find out that I am.
