Temora High School Open Rugby Union report At the beginning of 2014 a number of THS boys approached Mr Nethery and expressed their interest in forming an Open THS Rugby Union team and whether the Principal would coach them. Mr Nethery said he would if there were enough interested players. A meeting was held and sixteen seniors attended at which point it was agreed to form a team. Mr Nethery with the help of Jo Brennan approached the Temora “Tuskers” Rugby Union Club as to whether they would be happy to support. The Tuskers responded by providing the Rec Ground for training, equipment and the expertise of Apenisa Tudulu the Tuskers 1st grade coach and experienced past player Mark Brennan as well as much needed support from Kris Dunstan. With very little experience or history playing Rugby Union most players had a lot to learn so training was set for 4.15pm Wednesday afternoons. About 14 or 15 players have trained on each Wednesday and their ability to pick up the game is outstanding. Subsequently Mr Nethery entered the side in Round 1 of the 2014 Southern Inland rugby (SIRU) Open boys Rugby 7’s comp in Wagga Friday March 14. The Brumbies Super Rugby side sponsor & host this competition with Four (4) regional tournaments starting in Young, Albury, Wagga & Griffith to determine who goes on to the Semi-finals at Connolly Rugby Complex Wagga on the March 27th. On Friday March 14 Temora High played their 1st round game against the more experienced Kooringal High side. The Temora players played brilliantly and won 17-15 in a tight hard fought game. Congratulations to Hayden, Josh P, Travis, Colby, Billy, Jake M, Andrew H, Braydon T, Sam, Malakai, Kane, Rob, Ryan & Steve D & “Herby” New All players had fine games raising their own personal bar of achievement with great football efforts. Thanks also to Billy Winkley & Jack Irvine for their support & running the water etc Special thanks must go for the support continually given to the side by Apenisa (Benny) Tudulu and Mark Brennan for their great coaching input, , Kris Dunstan, Ian (Crack) Gordon, for their support and transport and Jo Brennan for her logistics and coordination and the boys themselves for their enthusiasm and effort. The winner of the SIRU Tournament gets to represent SIRU Schools at Canberra Stadium on April 4th (as a curtain raiser to the Brumbies v Blues Super Rugby Match) against 3 other finalist from the other Brumbies regions. Now for the March 27 Semi Finals against such sides as St Francis Leeton, Albury High and Yanco Ag.
