Template for launching a hero in Tollywood: 1) Arrange a media interview wherein the yet-to-be-launched hero’s yet-to-retire hero-father talks about how he has given complete freedom to his son to pursue his passion. In other words, he gives a cue to producers and directors on his pay roll and distributers and exhibitors under his control. 2) A cheeky story will be allowed to be aired and printed, suggesting that a certain beauty from Mumbai may be the “lucky one” to grab a “glamorous role” opposite the debutante prince, which will in turn mean a feast to the fans of the yet-to-retire hero. 3) There will be write-ups stressing the need for two glam dolls in the debut movie because the fans deserve such a bonanza. A Malayalee beauty will then be roped in so that the posters can have the gaudily-dressed young star and “hope of millions” flanked by two gorgeous beauties. 4) Meanwhile, one of the leading ladies will also be “selected” for a romantic film opposite the yet-to-retire hero. This is done to remove any apprehensions in the minds of his fans that he could be getting old. 5) Then, a rising star among the music directors, whose claim to fame is his natural ability to rip off western, African and Spanish albums, will be chosen to compose “hit songs”. This means they will be declared hits much before the audio launch. 6) The audio launch function will see the programme host, invitees and the movie crew vying with one another in declaring their reverence and loyalty for the “clan” to which the yet-to-be-launched hero belongs and declare him as a stealer of young hearts. It is a different matter that young hearts of the city do not even know who this guy is. 7) Holding a bunch of microphones of television channels, the producer and director tell the media at the sets that the movie will make a history in box office collections. They will tell you how utmost care was being taken while making the movie keeping in view the “expectations and sentiments” of the fans of hero’s family. 8) Then, there will be a flurry of media reports, which will surely drive PR professionals to suicide if they happen to watch them, talking about the “high expectations” from the movie and how people are dying to watch it. It is another matter that they may die after watching it. 9) After controversy over censor restrictions and fake box office figures of a rival family of heroes, it finally hits the screens. Emerging from the theatres, the frenzied mob is seen shouting random praises into the microphones of TV channels. They will declare the young hero as a savior and never forget to mention about his clan and its contributions to humanity. Looking at them, one gets a feeling that they must be utterly jobless bunch of people. 10) A hero is thus launched to the cacophonous bursts of sycophancy.
