Temple in China closes in protest A temple in Yunnan province closed its doors on Friday after a notice was posted saying that they are unhappy with a local government’s order to commercialize the site, according to 163. The religious site, named Panlong Temple, is usually open for visitors to worship #Buddha and to burn incense. Recently however the local government seems to have initiated steps to make the temple more “tourist-friendly”. According to a monk named Renlong from the temple, officials had a “secret” meeting on Thursday to discuss the future plans for the site. However, the proposal was strongly opposed by the head monk. “We (the monks) are used to peace and quiet life,” he said. The incident has seen many netizens in China supporting the head monk who stood out against local government. In response, the local government’s officials were forced to contact him again, saying their plan was ‘only a premature thought’.
