Ten blocks of historic adobe buildings centre around the plaza of Old Town Albuquerque, New Mexico, which was founded in 1706 by Governor Francisco Cuervo y Valdez. This is our lunch stop on Day 9 of our Ultimate Route 66 Tour in August 2015. After lunch we head back out on Route 66 through the splendour of New Mexicos natural beauty as we make our way to Gallup, New Mexico. Known as the Heart of Indian Country, because it is in the middle of many Native American reservations, one-third of Gallups population has Native American roots. Tonight we will stay at the historic Route 66 El Rancho Hotel where every room is named after a movie star who stayed here. These include: Burt Lancaster, Doris Day, Errol Flynn, Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Jane Fonda, Joan Crawford, Katherine Hepburn, Kirk Douglas, Mae West and Ronald Reagan - to name just a few.
