Ten years ago, out of job--with a baby in one hand—and just ended a relationship, I bought a book entitled “HOW TO BUILD YOUR MEDIA EMPIRE”. I don’t know why I bought it. The money should have been used to buy other things then, like diapers, milk or baby food. I don’t know what motivated me to pick up an old book with an almost impossible title. Struggling between motherhood and making ends meet, reading the book was like a fantasy. Its like a dream, a scary, scary dream. “How can I ever build an empire when my pocket is almost empty, I could barely support my kids?” ‘Empire’. Such. Big.Word. Really. Media empire --scary and very, very ambitious. Fast forward to ten years with four kids, still a solo parent – the book is nowhere to be found. Life has found me sending my kids to school and raising them, running a business, founding start-ups, doing consulting jobs and project management, managing events, teaching technology to our community, public speaking, blogging, part-time journalist and broadcaster—yes slowly building a media empire in Northern Luzon. The journey is and will never be an easy one. Its blood, sweat and tears. I bruised myself, I broke my heart, sacrificed my happiness, sometimes my sanity, spent sleepless nights, swallowed my pride a few times and endured f***ing cold, lonely days and nights.. And its not over yet, this is just the beginning. Why a media empire? Because there is power in the media. The power to educate and influence people. The power of information and the power of knowledge. Used correctly, it is an effective weapon for positive change, to build and strengthen a community. I spent more than half of my life, thank God. Its now time to build a legacy. Investors and partners are very much welcome :) Hahaha-ppy birthday to the craziest girl I know, Vanj Padilla. #justkeepmovingforward
