Tension as Adamawa PDP primaries committee disappears TENSION and political tussle heightened in Adamawa State, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Assembly electoral committee mysteriously disappeared, with strong indications that the entire members might have been kidnapped by powerful forces in the party. The development led to the non-conduct of the scheduled primaries on Saturday, as a visit round some local government areas in the town showed that no election took place. As of press time, the whereabouts of the committee members was not yet known. However, policemen had to be drafted to Muna Hotel, where the members resided, to ensure the committee members were given close surveillance, as party members were thoroughly screened before allowing entrance. The committee members, on arrival at Yola, the state capital, had paid a courtesy visit to the governor, James Ngillari, before they were later lodged at Muna Hotel. Sources alleged that the committee members, alongside electoral materials were hijacked by powerful forces. “We couldn’t trace their whereabouts since yesterday (Saturday), but we saw when they were whisked away,” Honourable Babanuman, a PDP chieftain told newsmen. When contacted on phone, the committee chairman, Ambassador Tim Ihemadu, confirmed that he was whisked away to the presidential lodge, situated at Government House, Yola, “due to tensed situation.” According to him, “when we came, we had paid courtesy call on the governor and dispersed, but never had any meeting with him. “However, on seeing the tensed situation, the governor decided to move us here to the presidential lodge, where our lives can be secured,” he said. When asked further about the primaries, he simply said “it is ongoing,” even as delegates across the state said they were still waiting in vain. In a similar vein, there has been serious tension and uncertainty in the PDP over delegates list, which led to the indefinite suspension of the state embattled chairman, Chief Joel Madaki, alongside the party secretary, Mr A. T. Shehu, by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. The suspended party chairman and his secretary, however, insisted that they remained party leaders and had secured a court injunction to retain their positions.
