Terrific piece and the analysis is sharp and right on target politically. Benedict Cumberbatch is just another empty liberal actor, corrupted by celebrity culture, who seems to have erased from memory what it means to live in a post 9/11 world in which the culture of fear and the appeal to national security have little to do with the threat of terrorist bombings and a great deal to do with state terrorism and the expanding apparatuses of the punishing state. And if this guy were really concerned about morality and matters of conscience, I think he might be more offended by the lies that Blair, Bush, Rumsfeld, and Cheney promulgated in order to initiate a war that has maimed and killed thousands. Or for that matter, he might be a bit more upset by the fact that Obama prosecutes the likes of Manning whose crime was to expose government abuses but refused to prosecute those government officials that engaged in torture, the violation of human rights, and illegal wire-tapping and kidnappings. In fact, he provided what amount to a blank check for their actions, thus offering a cover and legitimation for it happening again and again.
