Terrorist attacks are always a tragedy but this kind is always the most upsetting to me. Partially as someone whos always shit talking dangerous people and organizations behind the wall of American free speech and domestic security and partially because one of the best and most successful aspects of 21st century democratic life is the right to disagree. We take it for granted but for most of history and even today in a large part of the world the idea that I disagree with this person but they still deserve to live is completely foreign. Theres all kinds of factors, poverty makes people scared of any perceived other and poor education gives people single minded world views they desperately cling to and cause them to look at anyone different with ignorant superstition. I guess what Im saying is we should all (myself included) probably be a little nicer to people who disagree with us because tragedies like this remind us why democratic values are so important. Nobody should ever be killed because of a magazine. #JeSuisCharlie
