#Testimony #LifeLessons #TrueStory: For those that follow my page, you may notice that I post a lot of food pics. For those that dont really know me, you may not realize that I didnt start cooking until the last year, literally. I dont post pics to brag about my cooking, or to even impress anyone, I post them because I am proud of myself...and I am not ashamed about that. See...when I moved from Detroit to Houston last July (2013), I decided not to simply change my address, but to change my lifestyle. I was KNOWN for eating out A LOT. Truthfully...just about everyday. Not just fast foods though, I would go to dine-in restaurants as well. Not only does that get expensive, and when it came to eating fast food, it was certainly not the healthiest way to live, but it also felt lazy to me (for me). So, I decided to make a lifestyle change and began cooking. And since July 2013 I went from barely cooking once or twice a month, to barely eating out once or twice a month. Originally, I did not cook because I didnt know how to. Cooking was certainly not something in my comfort zone, so I stayed away from it. And I think in my mind, as I got older, the harder I thought it would be to get any good at it. And I am the type of person that if I cant do it right, then Im not going to do it at all. But now, not only do I cook, but I am told I am pretty decent at it. :) Dont get me wrong, all I do is follow recipes. I am not making myself out to be some original chef or anything. But my reason for sharing this testimony is not to take credit for anything original, or overstate my triumph, but to share my lifes lesson out of all this, and that is...there is a difference between late vs too late. I couldve seen the idea of learning how to cook as being too late in life. Why change now? People have come to accept me this way (including Andre). But personally...I had not. Life can either be accepted or changed. If it is not accepted, it must be changed. If it cannot be changed, then it must be accepted. (Author Unknown) You see, there are plenty of people out there that WANT to make a change in their life in order to feel better about themselves, but as each day ticks by they think theres no point. They think I am too old, and/or it is too late. But I am here to tell you...NO, ITS NOT! There IS a difference between late vs TOO late. TOO late implies that the time and/or opportunity has past. As long as you have breath in your body, for most things, it is never TOO late to make changes for the better. Maybe you need to adjust your goal slightly based on age and/or circumstance, but that doesnt mean it is too late. Make a new dream derived from your original dream. For example...maybe you cant be an Olympic swimmer anymore, but you maybe you can look into teaching kids to become one instead. As Tom Robbins eloquently put it... Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach. For me, I always envied how my grandmother and aunt would be praised for their cooking at every family event, and maybe that wont be me, but I love my cooking today, and Andre claims he is enjoying it, but most importantly...my son does as well. And every time he goes out of his way to say to me...that was good mommy, my heart just melts. So, some of you need to make the decision TODAY that that thing that youve been wanting to change, TODAY is the day you are going to stop making excuses and start making plans towards change. Keep in mind...either you can be the creator of change, or you can allow change to create you...but change itself is inevitable! Its up to you whether those changes have a positive or negative affect on your life. Take control change, dont let change control you! #JS2TA
