Thai Customs Arrested 2 People Carrying 60kg. Ivory Thai customs officers have seized ivory worth more than $300,000 at Bangkoks international airport today as NZ moves to crack down on the tusk trade. Two suspects have been arrested for smuggling 18 elephant tusks and 586 ivory products, weighing 60 kilograms into Thailand, which was used by the smugglers as a transit point en route to Cambodia, officials said. The two suspects were identified as Luong Tien Phong carrying Vietnamese passport and Chen Zhiyu with a Chinese passport. They boarded a plane from Abidjan, Ivory Coast and transited in Ethiopia before taking on another plane to Bangkok. They were caught with ivory tusks and products before they could reach their final destination of Siem Reap in Cambodia, officials said. The smuggling of prohibited items is punishable by up to four years in prison and a fine of $1500.
