Thailand coup leader, Army Chief Prayuth Chan-ocha was elected as the Prime Minister of Thailand on 21 August 2014. His election to the post of 29th Prime Minister of Thailand was backed by 191 members of the 197-strong junta-picked National Legislative Assembly (NLA). No assembly member opposed the selection of Chan-ocha, who was the sole candidate for the post. Now, the appointment of 60-year-old, Chan-ocha who is due to retire from the armed forces in few months must be approved by the King Bhumibol Adulyadej although royal endorsement is seen as a formality. With the royal endorsement, he will become Thailands 29th Prime Minister of the country.
