Thank our founding fathers for religious freedom! All Hail Baphomet! Satanic Temple Unveils Statue Design For OK State Capitol. Author: Stephen D. Foster Jr. January 7, 2014 4:19 am Satanic Temple unveils giant goat-headed statue for OK state capitol. Oklahoma’s GOP must be losing their minds right about now. The Satanic Temple has unveiled its design for a giant goat-headed statue for the state capitol. Drawing of the proposed goat statue from the Satanic Temple. Weeks after the Okla. City Capitol Preservation Commission (OKCPC) put a halt on all new requests for statues on the statehouse grounds, the Satanic Temple revealed the design for the monument they soon hope to build. “The monument has been designed to reflect the views of Satanists in Oklahoma City and beyond,” Temple spokesman Lucien Greaves told Raw Story. “The statue will serve as a beacon calling for compassion and empathy among all living creatures. The statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation.” The statue depicts Baphomet, a goat figure linked to the Sabbath. The goat-headed god is seated on a throne with a pentagram above His head. Children appear standing and smiling on either side of the throne. The seven-foot tall statue will also feature quotes by the poets William Blake and Lord Byron. Baphomet has been worshiped for centuries and is in the form of a Sabbatic Goat. Baphomet is an idol that has been worshiped since the 14th century. Some even claim the Knights Templar worshiped Him, as did the pagans in later years. Now, the symbol is most often associated with Satanists. The Sabbatic Goat combines opposite elements, including male and female and good and evil to convey the “sum total of the universe.” The statue design unveiled by the Satanic Temple has even more meaning according to Greaves. “Our monument celebrates an unwavering respect for the Constitutional values of religious freedom and free expression,” Greaves stated. “Satanism is a fundamental component at the genesis of American liberty. Medieval witch-hunts taught us to adopt presumption of innocence, secular law, and a more substantive burden of proof… Acknowledging wrongful persecutions has helped shape the legal system that preserves the sovereignty of our skeptics, heretics, and the misunderstood. It has shaped a proud culture of tolerance and free inquiry. This is to be a historical marker commemorating the scapegoats, the marginalized, the demonized minority, and the unjustly outcast.” Religious freedom applies to all religions, even Satan worshippers. Indeed, religious freedom is part of the backbone of the Constitution. It’s not just for Christians, but for all beliefs as well. If the Oklahoma GOP really believes in religious liberty, they should put their money where their mouths are and allow other beliefs to be represented too. If not, then they should remove the Ten Commandments statue and stop getting involved in religion. This whole story began in December when the Satanic Temple filed papers asking to build their own monument on Okla. statehouse grounds. Just days later, a Hindu leader proposed erecting a giant monkey statue alongside the others. Of course, these ideas didn’t sit well with the Okla. GOP. Once other groups such as PETA and the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster joined the party, the OKCPC banned new applications. So, until a court decides the fate of the Christian monument, all of the other requests are on hold. It sounds like a lame excuse to keep other religious beliefs from being fairly represented. If the Satanic Temple is successful, the state’s Republicans will rue the day they decided to get involved in religion. Favoring Christianity over other beliefs is not only against the US Constitution, this trespass is in violation of the Okla. state Constitution as well. “Perfect toleration of religious sentiment shall be secured, and no inhabitant of the State shall ever be molested in person or property on account of his or her mode of religious worship; and no religious test shall be required for the exercise of civil or political rights.” In other words, the state must be tolerant of other beliefs, even if a certain political party doesn’t agree with them. That means the Satanic Temple should get to build a statue on capitol grounds right next to the Ten Commandments. And if that happens, Republicans only have themselves to blame for opening the door in the first place.
