Thank you Jen Suter for setting the record - TopicsExpress

Thank you Jen Suter for setting the record straight... Friends... I keep seeing this article circulating, and I cant bite my tongue any longer. To my stylist friends - Being on the corporate side of this industry for the past 13 years, I can tell you, with 100% certainty, that if you see Paul Mitchell in Target it is not diversion. If you see Pureology in Costco, it is not diversion. It is also NOT counterfeit product, as these companies would love for you to believe. They would rather have you believing that some shady company paid for fake packaging and for fake product to sell to these absolutely GIANT retail chains, just to rip off the big boys. **If you only consider Target, there are 1,919 locations in the U.S. Do you think some small potatoes company would be able to fill the shelves of ALL of those locations with counterfeit product? Target would not want to cross that line, especially putting themselves on the receiving end of Loreals legal department. However, even If they DID happen to have the means (and it would take A LOT to purchase a mold to create identical bottles) ... why wouldnt they create their own brand?** See, if you believe that, then you arent blaming the Paul Mitchells, Sebastians, and Redkens of the world for SELLING THEIR PRODUCTS DIRECTLY TO THOSE RETAIL CHAINS. They have no problem taking the dollars out of all of your pockets, because they are filling theirs instead. Many of these companies claim to spend millions per year fighting diversion. That is just creative marketing laid out by spin doctors to redirect your anger. Ask them how much they spend each year fighting their own direct sales to these monster retail chains. If you feel like you are fighting a losing battle against the manufacturers that choose to sell in non-professional venues... FIGHT BACK! Have one day a week/month that you will accept competitors coupons. This will not take away from your initial investment, and you will be ensuring your clients arent using garbage on their hair. You can even take it a step further and put a sign in your salon... Your service today is guaranteed, when purchasing products from ABC Salon Its worked for me for years! Think about it. To my non-stylist friends - Please consider that your stylist KNOWS what is best for your hair. She/he takes a lot of time honing their craft, and attending classes and shows (on their days off), in order to bring you the latest trends and to learn about the BEST haircare to maintain the integrity of your hair. For example... If you are sick and your family doctor hands you a prescription to fill, do you run into Walgreens and buy something OTC instead because it was on sale? Lets just say that you do. Would you then go back to him and say i really dont feel better since the last time I was here. No, I didnt fill that script, but the other stuff was cheaper My guess is NOPE. On a daily basis, stylists evaluate the needs of YOUR hair... considering whether you need moisture in the form of a creme or an oil. If your hair would do better with a gel or a mousse. If the shampoo and conditioner that you are using is the best option to get the volume youre looking for. Without their expertise, you could end up with a cabinet FULL of products that you thought were right, but didnt make the cut. PLEASE consider that your stylist works hard to prescribe the right products JUST FOR YOU... and going elsewhere to buy those products is taking money right out of their pockets. 9/10 times, those retail chains are selling the products for suggested retail price (the same as your stylist) SUPPORT YOUR STYLISTS. They care about you and your hair!
