Thank you Kerry for the kind words. The (CMW) awards’ show’s one other performer was Tom Cochrane with Red Rider and together they put on a show that no one would ever wish to follow. The audience was up on its feet, gals dancing, before Tom had finished “Lunatic Fringe” and then he followed with riveting, smoldering hot versions of “White Hot” and “Life Is A Highway”. There was unbelievable energy in his return to the stage, unparalleled musicianship, and a performance to take away and remember always. Tom tells Kerry Doole that we can expect a couple of EPs of new material this summer via Universal: a rock ‘n’ roll collection, and another that is roots-based. In the audience, former EMI topper Deane Cameron–they played in a high school band together, who first signed him, and Universal topper Randy Lennox who has forged a firm friendship with Tom and suggested releasing twin EPs rather than a full-LP for his comeback. I had a chance to speak with TC before his induction into the Hall of Fame and there wasn’t a shred of superstar attitude about him. He’s the real deal, and Canada seems to have a lock on real deals. Why are so many American superstars so vapid? Maybe they watch too many Avril videos. I don’t know.
