Thank you Lord for today. Thank you for reminding me that with Your grace, nothing is impossible. Today, I presented in the Everett Fox Memorial Lecture Award Research Contest in the American Academy of Dermatology. At each annual meeting of the Academy, the Everett Fox Award is granted to the most outstanding clinical and laboratory researches. Today, God reminded me of how He listens to prayers and of how He grants hearts desires. He reminded me superbly by giving me a First Place win in the clinical category of the contest. Listening to the other participants who came from no less than Harvard, University of California San Francisco, University of Florence, University of Texas, University of Pennsylvania, among others, I could not help but feel blessed and slightly overwhelmed to share the stage with them. These are supremely gifted residents with extraordinary researches, that being in their midst alone made me feel like a winner. However, I have to admit that winning against them made me feel the highest sense of Filipino pride. :) I would also like to congratulate Dr. Jubin Ryu of UCSF (also in the picture) for winning first place in the laboratory category for his paper, Creating Nanostructured Films for the Treatment of Cutaneous Fibrosis. I also send my felicitations to the 2nd place and 3rd place winners of the clinical category, Dr. Shivani Tripathi, also from UCSF for her paper, An Open Label Study of Anakinra for the Treatment of Moderate to Severe Hidradenitis Suppurativa, and Dr. Young Lee from University of Pennsylvania, for her paper, A Retrospective Analysis of the Duration of Oral Antibiotic Therapy for theTreatment of Acne Among Adolescents: Investigating Practice Gaps and Potential Cost-Savings. The road to getting here was not easy. For any paper to succeed, you need to have the best support possible, and I would like to thank my parents, ThadandRowena Evangelista for believing in me and my paper. Other participants had grants and financial support for their papers. I had my parents trust in me. That trust had gone a long way. It had brought me to Orlando and Miami for my other paper, and now to Denver for this paper. To my mom, who went with me here to the AAD, my lucky charm, thank you for your loving presence. I love you very much mom and dad. Without you, I would not be who I am, and where I am today. This win is for you. To Johnpaul Vallejo, who inspired me in ways I cannot even describe, thank you for all the love and support you have given me, and for letting me pursue all of my dreams. To Dr. Flordeliz Abad-Casintahan, for being co-author in all my papers, a loving friend and a beloved mentor, thank you. To all my mentors (special mention to Dr. Lillian Villafuerte, also my co-author in 2 papers, thank you), batchmates, co-residents, staff and the rest of the Jrrmmc Dermatology, thank you for always making me feel that I am special, and that I am loved. To Dr. Rowena Genuino, for your very helpful inputs in making my presentation AAD-worthy, thank you. To Dr. Kat Kwan and Isin Sinem Bagci, thank you for your presence win the presentation, mommy and I really appreciate it. Thank you also to all who prayed for me and with me. i know that your prayers brought me here. Thank you also to all those who posted in Facebook (thank you tita Yolie Panganiban , tita Noemie Salta Ramos, Kami Torres for sharing our victory in your news feeds) and to everyone else who sent me inspiring emails and messages. And last but not least, to the Lord, again, my most fervent of thanks. I thought last year was the best year of my life year. I think I thought wrong, because 2014 has definitely started with a bang.
