Thank you so MUCH to each of you who are willinging to become a mentor. By volunteering as a mentor you are agreeing to hold what your mentee shares with you in the utmost confidence (confidentiality is paramount). You are also agreeing to keep the lines of communication open with your mentee, as well as being available to them through (at minimum) their entire 1L year. Availability may range from answering general questions about subject matter (or helping them to find the answer from the professor or tutor) to being a support system to your mentee as they experience an emotional “1L moment.” Further, you are agreeing that at some point in the mentor/mentee process you will meet with your mentee at least one time for an off-campus activity of your choosing (it doesn’t have to cost you anything, but your time). Examples of the off-campus activity are: a walk around a mall, a brown bag lunch in the park, a trip to the movies, lunch or dinner at a restaurant… whatever you think would be a good way to help your mentee learn to unwind from the stress of 1L year. Finally, you are agreeing to attend the “Meet and Greet” session where you will be paired with your mentee (will be held on a Saturday morning in September 2014, max time 2hrs; we will provide you with the date ASAP). However, more thorough responses will better enable your Student Bar Association to pair you with a compatible mentee. Once you hit submit, your responses will be transmitted to me.
