Thank you so much for the big outpouring of love today for Champ Allen and myself. I feel encouraged after seeing Dr. Matt Rees and Dr. Jeffrey Roberts today. They are not letting any time be wasted. I have known Dr. Rees for a long time and he is so devoted to staying on top of research and doing all he can for people. He insisted for Champ to get a second opinion from an oncology hematologist in Charlotte who specializes in Champs platelet condition and he got that appointment for us on Monday. Dr. Roberts is going to try to fit him in tomorrow for the measurements for his radiation. He is having a PET scan on Sunday. They seem to be moving heaven and earth to get things going right away. The ENT who discovered the cancer had told us they would probably want to remove Champs 3 remaining natural teeth--he wears dentures--but Dr. Roberts said that wouldnt be necessary because they are healthy and on the other side of the mouth from the tumor. The ENT had also said they might put in a feeding tube before starting any treatment, and Dr. Roberts said no to that, too. He said if Champ started feeling like he couldnt swallow he could do it quickly, but didnt see the need to do it now. Thank you all for thinking of us.
