Thank you to everyone who responded to my If there was one prayer... questions. The results here (and elsewhere) confirmed what I was already thinking. I plan to put it all into a short blog. In short, the Jesus Prayer was surprisingly the most popular - which was what I was hoping for. The Lords Prayer (and the Nicene Creed - if that counts as a prayer) were a given, as they codify the Christian faith. The Angelic Salutation and the Rosary were mentioned often - which not only brings in the Marian element but also reveals the hunger for an organized prayer rule. The Divine Mercy Chaplet - which contains a form of the Trisagion prayer and alludes to the Jesus Prayer - confirms the growing interest of Western Christians in Byzantine / Orthodox spirituality and prayer. My plan (if all goes well) is to form new communities that will utilize a prayer rule - beginning with the one I personally use and that has been a blessing to nearly every person who has tried it, not to mention the countless souls who have prayed a version of it over the centuries.
