Thank you to those of you who have made donations so far today. I truly am lucky. And thank you to all of you wishing me a happy birthday as well. I cant think of a better way to spend this day than hearing the matriarch complain from phone alerts Im getting for every b-day message Im receiving. I suppose I could disconnect my phone from her bedroom wall socket but that would rob me of a big smile. :) ________________________ Friends, As I celebrate what appears to be the 22nd anniversary of my 18th birthday on 8 September, I cant help but reflect on how wonderful and fulfilled my life is. I have a family that I pay to love me, and friends who can barely stand me but appreciate me nonetheless. A few minutes ago, I received what must be my 9th electronic gift card which, based on last years count, may make this a record year. Thank you, one and all, who over the past few years have showered me with these gift cards as donations to the various organizations close to my heart. Whether its a $30 gift card from Lowes or office supplies from Staples, battered womens shelters, food banks, orphanages (here and abroad), and undocumented students have benefited from your generosity. Over the past 4 years, I must have received close to $2,500. It may not seem like a lot, but a local food bank appreciated the folding tables and chairs the $100 gift card from Home Depot got for them, as did the laptop bag and mouse the Office Depot card got a recent DACA student last year. Im sure to some my expectation that the same will happen this year may seem a bit pretentious, and I am sorry for that. But in the off chance that friends will be sending me gift cards for me to donate again, I would like to ask that a monetary donation be done instead so that I may donate money to a few organizations in need of financial assistance. That said, I wont refuse any help that may come our way, but I know a monetary donation will be of greater use to them. Moreover, whatever I am able to collect from 12AM on Monday through 12AM on Tuesday, I will match.
