Thank you very much to everyone who came along to our Open Day and the unveiling of The Advancing Soldier. I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of people who turned out on such a dismal day, which made the hard work so worthwhile. Thank you to Amanda Cottrell, Chairman of Visit Kent and David Monk, Leader of Shepway District Council for your kind speeches and to the superb Hugo Fenwick, the High Sheriff of Kent for standing out in the drizzle unveiling our statue, with the help of The Duke of York’s Royal Military School Fanfare Team and the Standards from The and Queens Own Buffs, The Royal Kent Regiment. We were delighted that Cllr Miss Pam Carr, Chair of Shepway Council, was able to join us and our dear friend Pearly Princess Diane Martin looked fantastic next to the High Sheriff - the photos were brilliant! The fantastic Swingtime Sweethearts, Miss Luna Nightingale and John Miller Orchestra were each on top form and it was a great surprise at the last minute that the Military Wives Choir were able to join us. And last but by no means least; huge thanks must go to the truly brilliant Michael Whiteley and his team at Artisan Creations for making our beautiful Advancing Soldier. It is incredible and we are delighted with it – I hope you agree how stunning it is. We will be holding an official naming ceremony for it on Wednesday 16 July, Schools’ Day and are inviting all Kent schools to submit name suggestions to us either by email: [email protected] or via Twitter: @nameoursoldier Keep sending through your photos and if youve any youd like added into the Press circulation let me know and Ill send you a Dropbox link!
