Thanking God for another day! Today is: Near Miss Day: commemorates March 23rd, 1989, when a large asteroid missed the Earth by a mere 500,000 miles – a very near miss indeed! What would you do if an asteroid was about to hit the Earth – how would you spend your last hours, and would you even want to know? OK Day: It is said to be the most frequently spoken (or typed) word on the planet, bigger even than an infants first word ma or the ubiquitous Coke. And it was the first word spoken on the moon. Its an entire philosophy expressed in two letters. Its very odd, but its . . . OK. Yes, OK. Just two simple letters. And two letters of humble origin; they were born as a lame joke perpetrated by a newspaper editor in 1839. But these two simple letters (or four, if you use its genteel alter ego okay) anchor our agreements, confirm our understandings, and choreograph the dance of everyday life. World Meteorological Day: to commemorate the entry into force in 1950 of the convention that created the World Meteorological Organization. The day also highlights the huge contribution that National Meteorological and Hydrological Services make to the safety and well-being of society. This years World Meteorological Day theme is “Weather and climate: engaging youth. Today’s youth will benefit from the dramatic advances being made in our ability to understand and forecast the Earth’s weather and climate. At the same time, most of them will live into the second half of this century and experience the increasing impacts of global warming. WMO encourages young people to learn more about our weather and climate system and to contribute to action on climate change. National Melba Toast Day: this food is named after the Australian opera singer, Dame Nellie Melba, and was also created by the chef Auguste Escoffier. Melba toast is thinly sliced dry toast which is served with a variety of dishes and often eaten with cheese or pâté. The toast can be made by toasting slices of bread under a grill, which are then sliced in half, and the newly revealed side is then also toasted. It is much easier to buy commercially available Melba toast in packets though. There is certainly less risk of an accident caused by slicing thin pieces of bread even thinner. National Chip and Dip Day: celebrates Americas favorite snack duet. If you re holding a party, it is almost certain that chips and dips are on the snack list. The only possible exclusion would be for an Ice Cream party. Keep in mind, National Potato Chip Day is on March 14th. For todays celebration, the chip is more generic. It could be corn chips, or tortilla chips. And, the dip is any kind that goes well with the chip of choice. So....Is it ok that a meteor missed the earth? Of course it is! Did it have anythign to do with the weather? Hmmm...I dont know, OK? Have some melba tosat! Thats the crunchy rounds mixed in snack mix - my favorite part and Im quite particular to the pumpernickel ones! Chips and dips, chains and whips? Ok, not the last part. Have you ever been to a party and not seen chips and dip? Think about it....OK, maybe one? Grab some today or make up your own, any type will do! Whatever you do, have fun! If you happen to see Steven Gail Gail Smith, Colleen Tropeano, Ashley Cox, Mary Ann Clark, Paul Stinson, Thomas L Smith, Jon Cadman or Kelly Thayer Thomas be sure to wish them a Happy Birthday! I love yall! Have a Happy Sunday!
