Thanks #1: Sly. (as below.) Thanks #2: Community. Without it, life would be a whole different ball game. Thanks #3: Rank and order and the productivity and peace it can provide, when put to good purpose. This is my little buddy Sly. An orphaned raccoon that we nursed and played with for a couple of months. Used to follow us around the yard, and help with projects. Always curious, playful, and alert. Enjoyed being carried upside down, curled around wrist and palm. He knew when he was in trouble and cover his eyes with his paws. And when he wanted to say sorry, his paws would reach menacingly for your face, till you realized he just wanted to stroke your beard, and say he was sorry. He played rough and tumble with our puppies, never hurting one. He even fed off their mom a couple of times, for a few seconds, but she was at a tender point and his claws were pretty pointy. So it never lasted long. I can say, without a word of a lie, that he showed me point-blank, how basic of an instinct redemption is, to animals, and people, who believe in rank and order. Raccoons have a strong sense of community, and wouldnt get along as well without it. I miss him a lot, and hope he is living a fat happy life somewhere, never hungry, and never having to root garbage. Much thanks to the shelter that let us hand him over, to join a family, and find his best place in the world. (away from people, and hopefully cars!!). So tonights thanks, include a special one for Sly, and the time he spent with our family.
