Thanks Bob for the LTE reminding us this holiday season of the good fortune we all have to live in a great community. TAKE TIME TO REFLECT ON OUR WONDERFUL COMMUNITY Most letters to the editor focus on specific events/positions/opinions. In this holiday season, maybe we should reflect on the place where we live. Over the past decade, we have been blessed with leaders who have improved the police, fire and emergency medical services. Our regional hospital has expanded to offer additional services and improve existing ones. We have a growing higher education system – UNCW and Cape Fear Community College – which is key to attracting new businesses. We have a symphony, children’s museum, many historic homes we can tour. Wilmington has a rich, long history, a continually improving downtown; preservation of historic homes; parks, beaches, bike paths and a port. We have had city and county governments with the courage to propose improvements costing taxpayers, which voters have approved to try to keep us growing with the population and preserve what we love about Wilmington. Our community is a giving one, with churches, non-profits, foundations all doing their own thing to help others. While we may disagree on politics, court decisions, current events and agree that things could be better, perhaps we can take a moment to appreciate the unique combination of things which make up the fabric of our wonderful community. Time to have gratitude for what we have. Bob Mitchell, Wilmington
