Thanks, Carol McClelland for this brilliant example of a Full Circle Solution. The perspective from which such an elegant notion evolved was clearly a Collaborative Emergence perspective. From Carol: I love hearing about solutions that have multiple benefits for all involved. In this case, beehives are being installed along fence lines to keep elephants out of crops in Kenya, with the goal to reduce human-elephant conflict. This simple solution works because elephants dont like getting stung by bees!! They will go out of their way to avoid the buzzing insects after getting stung a few times. As a result, they steer clear of farmers crops and the farmers/community. In the process of using this innovative form of guarding their land, the farmers attract bees to pollinate their crops and an additional income source--honey! I think of solutions like this as Full Circle Solutions -- honoring wildlife, the people, and the land. Ill be adding this story to my collection of examples!
