Thanks. Im very grateful for the kind messages received after reporting on my untoward collision of earlier today. Im mindful that there was no malice aforethought on the part of my mugger, that I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, or maybe the right place in the right time. It doesnt really hurt (except for my right wrist, which is hurting quite a lot) to be reminded forcefully that our streets are home to many people with many challenges and, given the prevailing current of the news in the last month or so, maybe its not so bad to know, empirically, how physical assault, unexpected, unasked for, and unwarranted, feels. I was able to get up off the sidewalk unassisted, to come home after a happy work experience to a warm apartment and have a cup of tea and then go out for dinner with friends and settle the bill without worry. In every conventional, middle-class way (and theres nothing wrong with being conventional or middle-class) Im so lucky, and in every conventional middle class way, I suspect, my assailant / teacher is not. Please dont think Im laying claim to anything like moral high ground here; Im not so swaddled in bourgeois self-assurance or entitlement as to think this give me a moral advantage. I hope she finds many reasons for happiness, I wish her well, and Im glad for what she taught me or of what, at least, she reminded me. Thanks again, friends. Good night.
