Thanks for adding me. I enlisted in the Navy in 1967, went to Boot Camp in San Diego and then to BEEP School and RM A-School there before joining the fleet as an RMSN in Pearl Harbor aboard USS Ernest G. Small (DDR-838). Made RM3 in 6 months and went to Crypto School at Schofield Barracks. Deployed to WESTPAC in Fall of 1968. USS Smalls designation was changed from DDR to DD in early 1969. In addition to Vietnam service,in 1968 and 1969, our ship was part of special contingency force sent to N. Korea in respond to the downing of an unarmed American EC-121 in April 1969.. Made RM2 and went to Teletypewriter Repair School on Ford Island. Made another WESTPAC deployment commencing in Feb 1970. It was the Smalls last and I stayed aboard until almost decommissioning in Fall of 1970. I got out on an early out to go back to college at Ole Miss and ended up a lawyer. Practiced law out of Jackson, MS for over 30 years and now retired from active practice. I write a weekly column for a small town newspaper (Grenada Star) and have published 3 books. Two are nostalgic humor and my latest is a legal thriller murder mystery. Some of my Navy experiences are woven into my newspaper column from time to time and may be found in all of my books. Another novel will be out before Christmas. Despite a successful legal career and interesting times as a struggling writer, I feel the most significant thing I have done in life was as a Navy Radioman.
